About Gdańsk
Gdańsk is a city with over a thousand years of history and a unique location as one of the most important harbour cities on the Baltic Sea. Today, Gdańsk is a dynamically developing centre of science, culture, entertainment and sport, and an attractive tourist destination, as well as the world capital of amber. The city is known for its extensive recreational areas, including over 20 kilometres of sandy beaches, with the most popular ones located in Stogi, Jelitkowo and Brzeźno. An important landmark on the map of Gdańsk is Westerplatte — the site where World War II began and one of the key places of historical memory in Europe.
Gdańsk is widely recognised as a city of freedom and solidarity. In1980, at the Gdańsk Shipyard, the Solidarity movement was founded — the first independent trade union in the Eastern Bloc, which initiated a broad, peaceful, anti-communist social movement and contributed to democratic changes across Central and Eastern Europe. The legacy of these events is honoured, among others, at the European Solidarity Centre, the Monument to the Fallen Shipyard Workers of 1970, and the historic Gate No. 2 of the Gdańsk Shipyard.
For the ICHP 2026 Conference, we have selected the conference centre at the Mercure Gdańsk Hotel, located near the city’s Old Town and the historic Gdańsk Shipyard. The venue offers modern facilities, including 10 multifunctional, air-conditioned conference rooms, enabling the organisation of events for up to 400 participants.
The hotel is located within walking distance of the city’s major tourist attractions, including the Main Town, Długi Targ (Long Market), the Gdańsk Crane (medieval port crane on the Motława River), Neptune Fountain, St. Mary’s Basilica and the European Solidarity Centre. Its location also provides easy access to major transport hubs, as the hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from Gdańsk Główny Railway Station.
Gdańsk is excellently connected with the rest of Poland and Europe thanks to Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa International Airport (GDN), an extensive railway network and efficient public transport. Travel from the airport to the city centre and the conference venue is easy and can be done in several ways:
- Taxi or Uber and Bolt provide direct transport from the airport to the Mercure Hotel. The journey to the city centre usually takes approximately 20–30 minutes, with taxi fares starting at around 60–80 PLN, depending on traffic conditions and time of day. Uber and Bolt are more economic but also depend on the time of the day.
- Public buses, line 210 (towards Gdańsk Główny) or N3 (night service), depart from a stop located just next to the terminal, about 100 meters walk. This is the recommended budget option. A single ticket costs 4.80 PLN (approximately €1.10) and can be purchased from a ticket machine at the bus stop (paper tickets must be validated on the bus), from a card reader inside the bus using a contactless bank card or via a mobile app (i.e. jakdojade, mPay, SkyCash). Tickets cannot be bought from the driver. Line 210 operates until 23:05. There are two buses per hour until 21:00 (9 pm).
- PKM train (Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna) runs directly from the station located at the airport terminal to Gdańsk Główny Station, or via Gdańsk Wrzeszcz, where passengers need to transfer to the SKM (Fast Urban Railway) to reach Gdańsk Główny. Trains run also roughly twice an hour to Gdańsk-Wrzeszcz and once an hour to Gdańsk Główny. A one-way ticket costs approximately 6–7 PLN (around €1.50).
The Gala dinner will be organized in the Grand Arsenal Basement, an 18th-century space in the heart of Gdańsk, full of original architectural details that have been carefully preserved, blending the past with the present. The captivating atmosphere of these cellars, with their stone walls, original vaults, and raw character, creates a unique setting for events, meetings, and workshops.

Route from the Gdańsk Główny railway station to the Mercure Hotel, about 7 minutes,

Route from the line 210 bus stop (Dworzec Główny 05) to the Mercure hotel, about 7 minutes.
